Disabled men receive SSD accommodations after being taken away

After a case heralded for its landmark decision, the Social Security Administration will help two men with training and assistance because their mental disabilities prevented them from understanding eligibility rules. Although the men, who receive Social Security Disability benefits for their mental disabilities, reside in another state, the impact of the decision will likely reach to all jurisdictions, including Georgia.

How are SSDI and SSI different for Georgia residents?

There are many acronyms and terms that we throw around when discussing Social Security income and payments. Some Georgia residents may be confused about the difference between Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income. Although the terms are deceptively similar, they have significantly different meanings. It's important to know the difference between the programs when attempting to figure out eligibility.

Officials careful about Medicaid revamp

State officials who intend to redesign Georgia's $7.8 billion Medicaid program are facing significant challenges because of the program's expanded role. No longer is the program, along with Social Security Disability, providing only medical care. Rather, the programs are now rehabilitative, delivering job training and other important services for low-income residents.

SSD fund, benefits may be shrinking

Although Social Security retirement plans and Medicare have been on the hot seat for congressional budget cutters, few people have noticed that Social Security's disability trust fund is also dangerously close to running out of money. Social Security disability money is likely to be depleted much sooner than the other two programs, leaving 11 million Americans with a more than 20 percent cut in their resources.
