Companion animals for Social Security disability

A Minnesota woman has filed a suit against her condominium association for discrimination after she was denied permission for a companion dog. The association has, instead, recommended a companion cat, though physicians have recommended a friend of the canine persuasion. Having been approved for Social Security disability benefits, the woman has filed a civil rights suit in federal court for violation of the Fair Housing Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act for refusal to accommodate her disability.

Bank of America settles disability discrimination accusations

The charge of discrimination by the Department of Housing and Urban Development that began in February has been settled. The U.S. Department of Justice alleged that Bank of America, the second-largest bank in the U.S., had "imposed extra burdens" on those who used their Social Security disability insurance income to qualify for home loans. These people were also required to provide letters from physicians to document the income.

Baby Boomers urged to be tested for Hepatitis C

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a recommendation following concern about a high estimate of Baby Boomers infected with the virus Hepatitis C. Thought he virus can cause cirrhosis and liver cancer, most people don't know they are infected and are unable to seek preventative care.
