More chronic pain sufferers seeking out acupuncture treatments

There are people all across Atlanta who experience chronic pain. Sometimes this condition arises after surgery or a serious accident, and sometimes a person is suffering from fibromyalgia. Whatever the source of chronic pain, it is a condition that is not well understood, defined or treated. And because an estimated 100 million people in the U.S. struggle with chronic pain, it is a very concerning issue.

In general, people who suffer from chronic pain are left to try and find a treatment that works for them. Traditional medications may not be effective and doctors can have a very difficult time diagnosing someone who suffers from something that cannot be seen or felt by anyone besides the patient. That is why some people are seeking out some less mainstream solutions, like acupuncture.

One report suggests that acupuncture treatment for chronic pain has jumped from one percent of chronic pain sufferers to six percent in just 10 years. In fact, 14 million people in this country have turned to acupuncturists to alleviate and manage pain symptoms.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice where needles are inserted into different parts of the body. The needles can act as a means of easing pressure in certain areas and stimulating nerves that release endorphins to help people feel better.

Whether acupuncture, massage, physical therapy or medication is effective for treating pain depends heavily on the individual. Every person is different and experiences pain differently. However, one thing that every person who suffers from chronic pain will want to consider is keeping records of whatever medical treatments they are seeking. People who hope to collect Social Security Disability Insurance or other benefits need to have these records available and may want to speak with an attorney in order to make sure they are complying with treatment requirements.
